What is Aging in Place and why does it matter?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention define aging in place asthe ability to live in one’s own home and community safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level. When preparing yourself or a loved one to age in place, it’s important to consider whether your or their current home is set up to ensure the safety, independence, and comfort of senior residents.

Failing to properly account for how the home environment might need modification to allow for aging in place can lead to not only discomfort but also injuries, illness, and even death, according to the AARP. As a result, it’s crucial to plan ahead and consider a range of factors when making the decision to age in place.

If you think you or someone you love is ready to age in place, ask yourself these questions.

Let’s Talk about Living In Place.

While people are living longer and electing to stay in their homes, this is still only around 20% of the population. There is another large group of people who can benefit from Living in Place measures. Our goal is to make all homes accessible for everyone.

One of the core principles of Living In Place is a safe home for everyone. Our goal is to create an accessible and efficient environment for people of all abilities, including those with memory or cognitive issues.

Even small changes can add up to a very safe, comfortable, and attractive home. Living In Place is more than just fall protection or ramps. We will access your abilities, your space, and your goals and find the right solution for you.
